Always one of the first roses to bloom in my garden, Lady Shalott opens with rich orange-red buds, which evolve into a chalice-shaped flower filled with loosely arranged petals of salmon pink with a golden-yellow reverse. The rose resembles old-fashioned roses, and it blooms in flushes throughout the season.
I’ve had my Lady of Shalott for five years and finally found the right spot for the container rose along my west wall. A sidewalk runs next to the common area next to my property, and my roses provide a show for all the neighbors who walk alongside my house. Finding the right roses to keep along the fence line took me a few years. I think I’ve finally figured out what works on the fence under the dappled shade of the Mesquite trees in the common area.
