Rose Society of Glendale Grows Roses for its Community

The Rose Society of Glendale promote a local rose culture within the West Phoenix metropolitan area by showcasing how roses, our national flower, can be successfully grown in the Valley. The group includes local rose growers that love to share their rose knowledge and help you grow healthy roses.

An affiliate of the American Rose Society (ARS), since 1988, the club serves primarily the West Valley area of Phoenix (AZ) by arranging regular monthly rose education meetings, which benefit the local community as well as Society members.

When the Rose Society of Glendale was formed, it was intended to be a consultant for the rose garden at Sahuaro Ranch Park on 59th Avenue and Mountain View Road. Subsequently, the Society took over the care and maintenance of the park’s 400-plus rose bushes in 2011. The Rose Society now provides hands-on training to interested volunteers wishing to help with pruning and deadheading of the more than 400 roses at the Sahuaro Ranch Rose Garden, located at 9802 N. 59th Avenue, in Glendale.

Several members of the Rose Society of Glendale are ARS certified Consulting Rosarians, and are qualified horticulture, arrangement, and photography judges at numerous rose shows throughout the Pacific Southwest District of the ARS.

Glendale Rose Show in April

Each year the Rose Society of Glendale hosts a rose show at the Valley Garden Center. The day-long show typically occurs on the first Saturday of April and is always open to the community.

Make plans to attend our next show. The show boasts some of the best exhibitors in Arizona and often includes rosarians from California. The exhibits featuring horticulture, arrangement, and photography classes are open to the public from 12:30 to 3:30 pm.

We hope you will join us either as an exhibitor or as a lover of roses. Either way, please stop by and take a peek at the excellent examples of America’s floral emblem – the rose.

Ice Cream Social in September

The Rose Society of Glendale is looking forward to sponsoring this year’s ice cream social on September 5, 2024. The event is a fantastic way to mark the end of our hot summer and celebrate our roses coming back to life. Celebrate the arrival of fall with other friendly rosarians that also love the idea of some cool ice cream to mark the season.

The annual event is a RSG tradition. Details about this event will be released in the newsletter and by email.

Join us, and let’s have some fun.
