The Puttering Rosarian

Crown Princess Margareta

The Crown Princess Margareta rose is in my garden because of its apricot color, and it shares its name with my wife. I like having an “English” rose in the garden. The Mesa East Valley Rose Society (MEVRS) included the plant during its 2023 rose auction. Sadly, the plant hasn’t shown itself as a star in the garden.

During the past three seasons, it’s provided me with some early May blooms, followed by sporadic flowers for the rest of the year. I did move the plant to my west wall this year. The plant can now take advantage of the lattice framework. I want to see if I can grow it more like a climber than a shrub. We’ll see if a new tack doesn’t improve the rose’s performance.

Thus far, the plant, despite its name, hasn’t been nearly as exciting as my wife.
