I couldn’t be any happier with a rose plant than with Julia Child. A butter yellow or golden rose, with a licorice-clove fragrance, the rose seems to honor its namesake. I enjoy being able to photograph its fresh blossoms along with some mature flowers to show the life cycle of a rose bloom. There are always plenty of blooms for me to choose from.
The rose plant is very heat-tolerant and has thrived under Arizona’s direct sunlight. I wish I could shade her some, but our HOA forbids me from erecting a shade structure in the summer. Yet, the Julia Child rose continues to bloom throughout the year.
The story is that Ms. Child personally chose this plant to bear her name. Even so, the rose is known by a different name in the United Kingdom, where it’s known as “Absolutely Fabulous”. I understand it took the name of a popular BBC One TV show that aired from 1992 to 2012.
